The Chester County Board of Education met at Chester County Middle School to spotlight what has been happening at the school.
First, CCMS Principal Tommie Kirk took the time to recognize three staff members – CCMS nurse, Tammi Beshires, Dawn Clayton who is the head of the kitchen staff at CCMS and special education teacher, Michelle McCaskill.
The CCMS Kid Congress was then given the limelight.
CCMS Kid Congress, under the supervision of Rebecca Lawrence, is the middle school’s introduction to student government. The student government lives by the words courage, kindness, gratitude, self-worth, growth and grit.
Other faculty members that help with the program are Kasey Blackwell, Dean Davidson, Marley Sullivan and Shea Wilson.
Earlier at the beginning of the meeting, Kid Congress students led the Pledge of Allegiance. Later on, the students introduced themselves and told the CCBOE their constitution. The CCBOE recognized and signed the CCMS Kid Congress Constitution to make it official for the school.
In other items of the meeting, the CCBOE acknowledged the “Safe Return to In-person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan” (ESSER requirement) and the “ESSER 3.0 Public Plan-Federal Relief Spending Addendum.”
Additionally recommendations from the policy committee to revise Section 5 of the Policy Manual were approved.
During updates, if the proposed education budget from Governor Bill Lee, which he gave during the Tennessee State of the State Address, is approved, 125 million reoccurring dollars will be devoted to teacher salary raises across the state.
“We suspect that there will be a new minimum salary for a bachelor’s with zero experience,” Director of Schools Troy Kilzer II said.
The next CCBOE meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 17 in the CCBOE Conference Room.
