Montezuma Community News

Welcome to 2024! Hope all of you that made New Year’s Resolutions are able to keep them.
Please check on any elderly people that live alone to make sure they have their needs met for some warm food and heat. See that your outdoor pets have fresh water daily and a warm place to sleep as well.
Montezuma sends out happy birthday wishes to Justin Moody on Jan. 9, John H. Stewart on Jan. 10 and Gregory Pollock on Jan. 11. Montezuma sends out happy anniversary wishes to Ricky and Celia Murley on Jan. 7.
We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Annual renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Please pray for our government, Melanie Pratt Hudson, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Imogene Naylor, Betty Cooper, Betty Sexton, Ruby Hannah, Vicki Dickson, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Wayne and Lynn Frye, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Clint Murley, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of C.E. Allen, Greg Stoltz, Diann Julie Edgar, Gayle Pugh, William Thompson and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Our devotion: “The Manifestation of Faith” – “…we can come to the Lord with perfect assurance and trust….” —1 John 3:21 (TLB)
“The Bible teaches that faith will manifest itself in three ways. It will manifest itself in doctrine—in what you believe. It will manifest itself in worship—your communion with God and the fellowship of the church. It will manifest itself in morality—in the way you live and behave. . . . The Bible also teaches that faith does not end with trust in Christ for your salvation. Faith continues. Faith grows. It may be weak at first, but it will become stronger as you begin to read the Bible, pray, go to church, and experience God’s faithfulness in your Christian life. You will learn more and more how to rely on Christ for every need, in meeting every circumstance, and every trial.
“You are right; God’s will is for us to grow stronger in our faith. Only then will we be able to resist the devil’s temptations; only then will God be able to use us as fully as possible. The Bible says, ‘But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’ (2 Peter 3:18).
“Remember: When we come to Christ, the Bible says, we are like newborn babies. But birth is only the beginning for a baby; an infant isn’t meant to be a baby forever, but to grow and become strong and eventually reach adulthood. The same is true for us. When we first come to Christ, we are ‘spiritual newborns’ —but we aren’t meant to remain that way. God’s plan is for us to grow strong in our faith and become more like Christ.
“How does this happen? It happens as we make use of the ‘spiritual food’ God has provided for us. What is that ‘food’? First, God has given us the Bible; through it we learn about Him and His will for our lives. God also has given us the privilege of prayer. In addition, He has given us fellowship with other believers. If any of those—God’s Word, prayer, fellowship—is missing, our growth will be stunted.
“Make it your goal to grow in your faith. Set aside time every day to be with God, and ask Him to lead you to a church where you can hear His Word and grow through your contact with other believers.”
Quote: “We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Have a great week and smile! It makes someone’s day! My number is 879-9777.

Enville Community News

Hello from Enville! Happy 2024, everyone! I hope you all are having a great week, and I hope you all had a fun and safe New Year’s Eve. We have been going to my cousin’s house for several years. We usually have finger foods, but this year, she cooked a delicious meal. We are all getting older, and it is harder to stay up until midnight, so we watch the ball drop at 11 p.m. our time. It is funny how things change as we get older; I have heard so many say that they do not even know the world is turning at midnight and never see the New Year in!
We had our traditional meal on New Year’s Day. The hog jowl represents prosperity, black eyed peas symbolize coins or wealth, greens represent money, specifically folding money (we have boiled cabbage and turnip greens) and cornbread symbolizes gold. This completes our Southern New Year’s Day tradition, which I have had every year of my life. My mom made sure of that, and I have carried it on. Our family always looks forward to this meal and we love it!
Enville sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Brandon Ooley on Jan. 7 and Harold Maness on Jan. 8. Happy Anniversary to Tommy and Linda Wade on Jan. 6. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
FYI, from a personal experience, when going to Maggie’s to eat, watch for the yellow lines on the parking lot to the building next door, known as the old bank building. Whatever you do, do not get your wheels on or over the lines. This is hard for folks in Enville, who have been parking for so many years out there, and it has never been an issue before. From what I have been told, there may be No Parking signs or a fence put up to help us with this issue.
Our prayer list this week is for Lisa Bishop, Robert and Linda Johnson, Agnes and Robert Smith, Mary Lee Guyon, Anita Needler, Vicki Dickson, Danny Keen, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Nicole Thompson, Emily Freeman, Ashley Pugh, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Loretta Plunk, Kaye Killingsworth, Sherry Webb, Jean Pickett, Don and Frances Willis, Justin Godsey, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Rick Ooley, Mike Pugh, Mike Frank, Tim Harris, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, Clint Murley, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country, all who have lost loved ones and, as always, each other.
Call me with news 608-3058 or to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 688-5125.
Have a blessed week, everyone!
