Chester County High School and Freed-Hardeman University Students assist pharmacy with flu shots

Members of the Chester County High School Future Health Professionals (HOSA) and students of the Freed-Hardeman University Nursing program helped Henderson Family Pharmacy give flu shots to the community Oct. 8 and 9.
HFP likes working with the local students as it benefits the students’ knowledge of the field, and it is also a way for the pharmacy to give back to the community. The CCHS students helped with all the paperwork and the FHU students administered the shots.
“Giving students exposure to the health care field enables them to make informed decisions about their future. I remember often the lessons I learned from my mentors and have always appreciated the time they took with me,” said Diana White, Pharm. D., of HFP. “Working with students is a way to ‘pay it forward’ and have an investment in our future.”
HFP also believes immunization clinics help the community as well as the pharmacists take care of their needs.
“We believe as health care providers it is important to know our patients on a personal level as well as a professional level. Independent pharmacies are best suited for that since we live in the community and have an interest in the betterment of our neighborhood. Immunization clinics have always been a great way to meet a need in the community since everyone (who is able) needs to get a flu shot. The current environment dealing with COVID made having a drive thru clinic a perfect fit. Most people, while needing a flu shot do not necessarily need to go to a provider’s office, where the chance of exposure would be higher,” she said. “We encourage everyone to get a flu shot even if they missed our drive thru event. Remember your local independent pharmacies would be able to meet this need.”
