Last week, The Chester County Girls’ Soccer Team triumphed over all their opponents in the District tournament. They entered the tournament being ranked first in the district which earned them a first round bye. Then, in the semifinals, on last Tuesday Oct. 15, they shutout South Side 14-1. In the end, they defeated the Lexington Tigers Thursday night to claim the District Title for Chester County and beat them 7-1.
“It’s always good to beat your rival,” Head Coach Jason Judd said.
The Eagles almost kept the Tigers from scoring at all, but the Tigers slipped a score in with about 20 seconds left in the first half.
The rest of the first half was in the Eagles’ control as they not only possessed the ball the majority of the half, but scored 5 goals by the end of the half.
At halftime, with the game in their control, Coach Judd and the soccer team had hopes to force the game to end early with a 9 point difference of 10-1. Even though they didn’t reach that goal, they did what was needed to walk away with a victory and also keep their opponent from scoring any further.
Additionally, Coach Judd said that a couple of his players played their best defensive game yet. He said that senior, Alayna Felker, cut off a lot of Lexington’s passes and killed a lot of their attacks. The other player he mentioned was senior America Angel who made a huge sprint to make a defensive play that resulted in keeping the Tigers from being in a scoring situation.
Judd just wishes that the girls make it back to the State tournament, and hopefully go to the championship instead of being put out during sectionals the past two years.
“This year, we’re trying to get over the hump and end our season in Murfreesboro,” said Judd.
The girls’ soccer team played Dyersburg Tuesday at home during the regional tournament.
