Eaglettes Volleyball started their season ready to compete. With the first game on their schedule being a tough opponent, Dyer County, the Eaglettes were able to defeat them in a clincher.
“Dyer County’s always tough, and they were tough tonight. I felt that it was a good match. I thought that we were evenly matched but I had some girls step up,” said CCHS Volleyball head coach Susan Humphry. “I could not be any happier right now.”
The good match-up led the game going to a tie-breaker in set 5.
Set one resulted in a loss 27-25 after the two teams continually responded to each other’s points at the end.
In set two, the Eaglettes managed to distant themselves from Dyer Co. and won it 25-20.
Both sets three and four were similar to the first as both teams continued to tie it at the end to avoid their opponents from winning. The third was one by Dyer 28-26 and the fourth was won by Chester County 26-24.
In set five, the Eaglettes picked up good momentum to win 15-8 which gave them the win 3-2.
Humphry said she was proud of the girls from their effort.
In the situation of being able to win close scoring sets, she said the team has to mentally control the pressure.
“It’s a matter of trying to maintain focus, and not get puzzled,” she said. “When the pressure is on, they’ve got to be able to mentally handle the pressure.”
Stats from the game include 36 assists by Kara Pipkin, 25 digs by Briley Thomas and 17 by Blakely Wilson, 12 kills by Tori Trice, four blocks by Emma Compton, and four Aces by Haley Oliver.
