In the first home game of the season on Monday, the Chester County High School battled on the court against Dyersburg High School.
The CCHS junior varsity team started the night with a good set win of 25-16, lost the second set 25-23 and was victorious in the third set (15-11) to win their game 2-1.
When the varsity teams hit the courts, the matches were more competitive and intense with the score margin being small for the majority of the game.
In the first set, the Lady Eagles kept the lead the majority of the set and was able to come out on top 26-24.
Unfortunately, though the other sets remained close as well, the first set was the only one Chester County was able to win.
In the second set CCHS lost 25-22 and in third they lost 25-18. The fourth and final set was a heartbreaker for Chester County after maintaining a lead until the Trojans scored 21 points putting the score at 21-20. At gamepoint, with the score at 24-21, the Trojans had a short serve. Then the Lady Eagles tied the scoreboard at 24 after a point by Zoe Kilzer and block by Blakely Wilson. The game concluded in the Trojans’ favor after a short serve by CCHS and another score by Dyersburg.
During the matchup, CCHS player Hannah Rich had the stat worth highlighting that evening with 13 kills.
With Dyersburg always being a tough, competitive opponent, though Chester County lost, the game proved that the Lady Eagles can be a competitor on the courts this year by keeping the scores close. CCHS Volleyball Head Coach, Emily Ellis, believes it displayed their potential for the season.
“I feel like we’ve got lots of potential that’s just waiting to be unleashed,” she said. “I was proud of how my girls stepped up for the first game. Dyersburg’s a great team. I feel like we rose to the challenge. I was very well pleased.”
