From the Director, staff and library board of the Chester County Library- THANK YOU to all who donated to our building fund or purchased from our fundraised during the month of December 2022. The library raised $4,011.35 for the building fund. This will aid us in our upcoming expansion. Remember that you can STILL donate to our building fund with cash or check at the library. Donations of $100 earn a leaf on our tree plaque and donations of $1,000 earn an individual plaque. THANK YOU!
Staff recently worked really hard for two days on having some new shelving installed in the far left corner of the library. While doing this, we have brought some changes to you that are detailed below. We hope you enjoy.
• All DVDs borrowed from the library will now have a neon green circle sticker on the inside of the DVD which has our name and phone number. This will make it easier for you when you take discs home to easily distinguish that it is a Chester County Library DVD.
• Children’s DVDs have been separated from other DVDs. On the left side of our DVD shelf we have DVDs that are rated G or PG and are specifically for children. We also have our juvenile audiobooks on this side of the shelves. On the right side of the DVD shelf, all other DVDs are housed. Updated printed DVD listings are coming soon.
• Another benefit of the changes to our DVD section is that we are no longer having to use the bottom shelf as we know that was difficult for many patrons to access and we still have room for future growth.
• Our adult non-fiction section was extensively gone through and materials severely out of date, not checked out for over five years, or materials in bad condition were removed from the collection. We were then able to reorganize the section and completely eliminate the use of the bottom shelf to make it easier for your browsing.
• Adult audiobooks now begin on the wall where DVDs end and adult non-fiction starts after the adult audiobooks.
• Adults who enjoy looking at the newest books that are available have a new location to go to. Shelves were installed beside the water fountain and new adult fiction, non-fiction, and biography materials are now housed here. We will also begin having seasonal adult displays on the right side of this shelf.
• In the children’s section, we are experimenting with dynamic shelving. We have taken sections of books and placed them in colorful bins along the bottom shelves in the children’s section. Each are labeled with words and pictures on the outside. The goal is for caregiver and child to pull the bin off the shelf and flip through the books/ take them out and really look at them without having to worry about the item going back in the exact order (this is specifically addressing books in the bins). We would love to hear your feedback on this change as you and your child experience this change.
