It is my privilege to introduce the February 2023 Servant of the Month. The Lions Club International celebrates those who serve others…thus the International Motto – WE SERVE. The Chester County Lions Club embarked on focusing on those here in our community who serve us. Some are behind the scenes going about their quiet service to others and some are what we call Public Servants.
This month we are honoring Jail Administrator Brian Stout.
Brian was born in Scotts Hill, TN and attended the Scotts Hill school system – grades K through 12. Upon graduation, he attended Jackson State Community College for Business Management. He later went to work for Young Radiator Company where he worked for 29 years from floor manufacturing all the way through the ranks of Supervisor. In 2016, Brian heard about an opening in the Chester County Sheriff’s Office. It was then he applied, job shadowed and was hired shortly thereafter. He began as a Correctional Officer, then becoming a Lieutenant and then working up the ranks to Jail Administrator.
He is married to Vicki (Davis) Stout of Henderson. He is proud of his family which include a son Chase Stout (26) and his wife Rhiannon, and grandson Beau (19 months), a granddaughter Dixie (3 months), a son Blake Snyder (18) a daughter Shelby Snyder (21); his mom and dad – Linda and Buddy Sloan of Reagan and his father in law – Larry Davis of Henderson.
Brian believes that his career choice of becoming involved with law enforcement was a kind act of fate. He feels very blessed. He says his greatest encouragers and mentors are without a doubt Sheriff Blair Weaver and Chief Deputy Mark Griffin. He says he knows he couldn’t work with better people than the staff at the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
When asked what he enjoys most and least about the job…his response was for what he liked most was not a surprise – it was helping inmates who truly wanted and accepted help and of course, serving his community.
When asked about what he likes to do for fun and relaxation he says he enjoys fishing – particular catfishing. He and his family enjoy vacations at both the beach and the mountains. He also collects and listens to vintage vinyl albums.
Last but not least….he enjoys smoking meat on his smoker.
His current plans and hope for the future include growing and learning in his current job with the Sheriff’s Department. His hope and plan for the future is to stay with the department until retirement. He reiterates that he feels truly blessed to work with the caliber of people who run and manage the Department.
When asked what he wanted people to know about himself; he replied with “If you’re a friend of mine, then you’re in a special circle”. His quote of life is “Always keep your gratitude higher than your expectations and you’ll lead a good life”. When asked about how he wanted to be remembered at the end of his career he says he wants to be remembered as “the one that would GET IT DONE!”
I certainly feel grateful to be able to present Mr. Brian Stout to our club and to our community as the Lions Club Public Servant of the Month.
