Chester County Middle School students score high in math

At the January Chester County Board of Education meeting, the board recognized CCMS and its math teachers for the achievements that the 4th and 5th graders have had in math.
On the recent benchmark, the 4th graders scored at a level of 65 percent while the 5th graders scored at 69 percent.
Furthermore, on the TN Ready test at the end of last school year, the middle school students almost doubled what the Tennessee state average. Chester County scored at 64.9 percent while the state average was 37.
“These numbers are significantly high,” commented Troy Kilzer II, Director of Schools for Chester County.
“I have excellent teachers that find ways to connect with students and make magic happen,” said CCMS Principal Tommie Kirk.
The middle school credits their collaboration with each other as the key to the students’ success.
“The whole school, we’re a team. Everybody. It’s fourth grade. It’s not 5th grade. It’s not teachers. It’s not administrators. It’s the whole team,” said 4th grade math teacher Misty Thomas. “…We collaborate daily.”
During the school board meeting, the board of education approved to add on a Chester County Junior High Golf team.
The Golf team will begin their season this spring with the possibility to compete in tournaments in Murfreesboro at the end of the school year.
