Longtime school administrator and education veteran and Chester County native Brad Schultz has been appointed Lipscomb Academy head of school, President L. Randolph Lowry announced last week.
Schultz is the head of school at Cross Schools in Bluffton, S.C. Prior to that appointment, he served in academic and senior leadership roles for 17 years at Greater Atlanta Christian, the largest Church of Christ affiliated pre-K-12 school in the country. Schultz will begin his post at Lipscomb Academy June 1.
“Dr. Schultz is an energetic and strategic leader and one who understands our core business of providing a Christian education for every student in our school,” said Lowry. “His prior academic and senior leadership experience and service on the executive cabinet for the entire K-12 school will be a tremendous asset to Lipscomb Academy and the vision that we have for the future of this school.”
As the only university-run secondary school in the area, Lipscomb Academy governance falls under the board of Lipscomb University and its senior leadership. Lipscomb Academy is the largest private two-year-old-12th grade institution in Middle Tennessee.
During Schultz’s tenure as head of school at Cross School, a private, faith-based preschool through eighth grade school, he led the school to an enrollment increase of nearly 60 percent, managed a $10 million facilities expansion and has prepared the school for the successful launch in fall 2019 of a new football sports program, hiring an NFL head football coach, and the start of offering high school grades.
“Lipscomb Academy is one of the leading schools in Christian education and being connected to a university is particularly exciting with the many unique opportunities that association brings with it,” said Schultz.
“I am very much looking forward to being a part of the Lipscomb community and partnering with faculty, staff, students and parents as together we build boldly on this solid foundation and continue to transform the lives of our students. In Christian education we have a much larger goal than just ensuring our students accomplish their educational goals which is extremely humbling and rewarding, and I look forward to starting this journey at Lipscomb Academy.”
As head of school, Schultz will lead an academy leadership team that includes the lower and upper school heads of school as well as other administrative personnel.
Before being appointed head of school at Cross Schools, Schultz served as chief innovative officer at Greater Atlanta Christian School, where he also served as faculty, assistant principal and principal during his nearly 20-year tenure at the school.
The Tennessee native has a Bachelor of Science degree from Freed-Hardeman University. He also holds Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees from North Georgia College and State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from Georgia Southern University.
Schultz and his wife, Monica, have one son, Dawson.
