Chester County Retired Teachers met March 16

The Chester County Retired Teachers met on March 16, 2022 at Snookum’s Restaurant. The meeting was called to order by President Jean Smith. The meal was sponsored by Community Bank of Henderson. Bank President Emily Johnson and VP Ashley Barnes were recognized and thanked for their service to the group. Guests were also recognized, including Lorrie Butler, recently retired TEA Uniserve Representative.
The Pledge to the Flag was led by Ann Lowe, the Thought for the Day was given by Kay Ivy and the prayer for the meal was led by Ralph Mays.
After a delicious meal, the group was entertained by Hunt Pipkin. Hunt has won numerous awards for his singing talents. He sang several songs. He did a wonderful job and was enjoyed by all.
Jane Rowlett read the minutes from the December meeting. Jennie Fletcher gave the treasurer’s report. Both reports were approved as read.
Group members gave updates on those of the group who have been sick or shut in.
The service project this month was a donation to the Star Life Skills Class at Chester County High School. Everyone were thanked for their generous contributions.
Jane Rowlett and Jean Smith attended the West Tennessee Retired Teachers meeting on March 7 in Jackson. President Smith gave a report on this meeting.
The motion was made and approved to have drawings at each school during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6. Also approved was the plan to have a table at the County Wide In-service in August and give pencils/pens and have a gift card drawing.
Applications are now available at CCHS for our scholarships to graduating seniors.
The Service Project in June will be donations to Imagination Library, and the guest speaker will be Mike Barker, TRTA lobbyist.
The slate of officers for 2022-23 was presented: Martha Lewis – President, Secretary – Jean Smith and Treasurer – Jennie Fletcher. The group was accepted by acclamation.
Door prizes were presented, and Community Bank and Snookum’s were thanked.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 15, at Snookum’s. The meeting was adjourned.
