During spotlights, Director of Schools, Troy Kilzer II, announced that the Chester County School District earned the honor of being a Tennessee Reading 360 District. Kilzer said that this recognition proves the attention to literacy in all of the Chester County Schools, but primarily the elementary schools.
Also during spotlights, the board recognized Mackenzie Wallace, a junior at Chester County High School, for being selected and given the honor to attend the 2022 Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities, which will be held June 5 to July 1 at the University of Tennessee at Martin campus. Wallace was selected as one of 52 students selected out of nearly 200 applicants. By attending this summer program, Wallace will be receiving three college credit hours from UTM.
Next in the meeting, the school board approved the emergency purchase of an intercom system at CCHS.
The board also awarded the lawn care service bid to Fresh Cut Lawn and Outdoor Services.
It was announced during the meeting that the school district will be following the state’s increase in mileage reimbursement.
Kilzer said at the end of the meeting that the March 17 meeting would probably be his last meeting to give a COVID-19 update due to the local school district numbers being at zero recently. This is dependent upon any up ticks or spikes in COVID-19 cases.
