Eagles fall to 1-3

The Chester County Eaglettes enter this week at 3-1 with a three-game winning streak after victories against Bolivar twice and one against Humboldt.
The second time they played Bolivar, Monday, Nov. 23, they managed to have a bigger win than the first time they played them with the final score of 61-39 having a difference of 22 with their first one being a difference of 15.
Then, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, the girls traveled to take on the Humboldt Vikings and took the Vikings down 50-11.
Since the start of the game, the Eaglettes were running away with the win.
They did not let the Vikings score until there was 1:34 left in the first quarter, and by the end of the quarter, Chester Co. was up 19-5.
Then in the second quarter, the Eaglettes racked up another 23 points while the Vikings just managed to get two more points. At halftime it was 42-7.
By the end of the third, they increased the lead a little more to 50-9, and in the fourth they held tight until the clock ran out to claim a 39-point win.
Being in the lead for the whole game, Chester County Girls Basketball Coach Lee Pipkin had all of her players subbed in at some point. She stated that due to students having to quarantine during these times of COVID-19, the team may have to depend on underclassmen.
“We were able to get some of our younger girls in, and that just helps period because it gets everyone excited but I told them ‘we never know what’s going to happen with people getting quarantined,” Pipkin said. “Our five starters may have to be quarantined, and we may have to rely on some of these freshmen.”
She complimented her upperclassmen on getting the ball to the junior varsity players.
“Our upperclassmen showed a lot of leadership tonight… Instead of them trying to take the shot, they were trying to get the ball to some of these younger girls.”
She also was proud of her players’ defense.
“I think we played hard defense, and that’s something we really have been trying to concentrate on,” she said.
The Chester Co. Boys on the other hand fell to 1-3 after two losses against Bolivar and another one against Haywood.
They looked to stop their losing streak when they played Humboldt Tuesday Dec. 1.
