The multi-talented Claire Maxon is the winner of the 2020 Chester County Independent Award.
The Chester County Independent Award is presented annually to the senior athlete at the school who have given the most to the CCHS athletic department throughout their four years at the school, as chosen by the coaches.
She was chosen for her athleticism in both soccer and basketball.
While playing for the CCHS Girls’ soccer team, she managed to earn multiple awards. She was a District Offensive MVP, two-time All West Tennessee winner, three-time All-District First Team winner and also earned All State Team.
By the end of her high school career, she even managed to be in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s Top 10 in scoring (161 goals) and Top 10 in assists (61 assists) as well.
Then, her senior year in basketball, she helped lead the Eaglettes to the regional tournament and won All- District and All-Academic awards.
In the midst of all her success in sports, she still succeeded academically and became the Class of 2020 Salutatorian.
Her favorite memories include “upsetting South Gibson in soccer sophomore and senior year during the regional tournament; especially Alina Greene’s game-winning header in the regional championship game against them this year,” she said.
“Just about every time we played South Gibson, we were looked at as underdogs, so beating them definitely showed that that ‘underdog’ status wasn’t truly valid,” she said.
Maxon will attend Union University in the fall and continue her athletic careers in both soccer and basketball at the college as well.
