Daniel William Jones, 70, of Henderson passed away Feb. 7, 2023. Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 13, at the Henderson Church of Christ with Ben Flatt and Billy Smith officiating. Burial followed at Henderson City Cemetery.
Jones grew up in Henderson and was a 1970 graduate of Chester County High School. He married Debbie Wright on June 22, 1979.
He began working for the Chester County Board of Education in 1974 and retired in 2015 after 41 years of service. During his tenure he coached high school baseball and Junior High boys’ basketball and taught Science and P. E.
He also officiated football, volleyball, basketball and baseball. He was honored to work a TSSAA State football and baseball tournament.
“Goose was a character,” said Scott Whaley. “I had the privilege of knowing him as a teacher, a coach, a teammate and a friend. He was my economics teacher in high school and there never was a dull moment in an otherwise boring class. He would occasionally give us one of his renowned Elvis interpretations, which were always pretty good. As the CCHS baseball coach, he taught us the fundamentals and made practices as fun as the games. We didn’t always win but we always played for Goose.”
