Montezuma Community News

Montezuma Community Center will have a potluck soup and sandwich meal and Planning Meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. All are encouraged to attend. Anna Nelson from the UT Ag Extension will be presenting information for a Technology Training class to be held.
Montezuma sends out happy birthday wishes to Margot Cox on Jan. 31, Garrett Hathcock on Feb. 2, Emmarie Phelps on Feb. 3, Vicky Finley and Michelle Newsom on Feb. 5, Krista Cook, Tim Wooley and Buddy Richardson on Feb. 6, Jeremy Cook and Nicole Wooley on Feb. 7 and Lynn Cook and Eddie Morton on Feb. 8.
We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Annual renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Please pray for our local government and federal government, Donna Doyle, Carolyn Goff, Jimmy Cooper, Bethany Moore, Jeff and Barbara Brewington, Melanie Pratt Hudson, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Imogene Naylor, Betty Cooper, Betty Sexton, Ruby Hannah, Vicki Dickson, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Wayne and Lynn Frye, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Clint Murley, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Clarence Guest, Dennis Ross, Annette Scott Jordan, Billie J. Shelley Noles, Billie Walker, David Lane, Inetha ‘Shirely’ Harvey, Gwendell Patterson, Gloria Jean Kiestler, Wilma Fay Barker Fry, Randy Willis and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Sweetlips Community News

I was certainly glad to get out of my house, go to the store, and not worry about sliding off in a ditch. Just needed to remind everyone about the stew/bake sale. It will be Feb. 10 at the Sweetlips Community Center. Snow date is Feb. 17. Stew will be ready at 10:30 a.m. Bring your own container for the stew.
For those new to the event, we are asking for donations of beef roast and something for the bake sale. Your roast should be cooked, de-boned and left in its own juices – the more juice the better! Bring your roast and baked items to the community center Friday evening, Feb. 9. If the roast is already cool, please put it in the refrigerator; if not, leave it on the counter. If you have baked items that need to be refrigerated, please do so; all others will go on the long tables by the wall.
We will be peeling potatoes at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, so bring your sharpest knife and come help us. We have 150 to peel and cut! If you cannot peel, they will need help setting everything up downstairs.
If you bring your container early, make sure your name is clearly written on it. Baked goods should be in non-returnable pans as well as what the meat comes in. Be sure your name is on the baked item and write what it is on the container.
This is our once-a-year fundraiser with all proceeds going to the upkeep and maintenance of the fire department and community center. Without your help, this would not be possible. The stew goes quickly and is $25 per gallon.
You may pre-order by calling Neal Kinchen at 608-6461, JoAnn Greer at 879-9840, Cindy Springer at 989-7046 or Tatum Fucci at 879-0597. We sell out long before noon, so please get the pre-orders early on. Hope to see you there.
Birthday wishes to Ben Quarles, Jan. 23; Jackie Gilliam, Jan. 24; Jesse Fletcher, Jan. 26; Wendy Massengill and Michaela (Price) Jones, Jan. 27; Jean Pickett, Jan. 29; and Will Wade, Feb. 1
Hope everyone has a blessed week. Thought for the week: Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return but because of who you are.

New Friendship & Mifflin Community News

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The clouds were gray on Sunday, and I think the only sunny day for the next 10 days was supposed to be Monday.
Oh my, Mr. Sunshine, we need you. We do not do as well on dreary days. The temperature was 41 on Sunday and felt like 38 outside. The forecast for the coming week shows mostly cloudy days but moderate temperatures. We do not control the weather, and we just need to be thankful for another day regardless of the weather. I am just glad the snow/ice is gone.
Loving Paws Rescue posted recently on Facebook that they needed monetary help to keep electricity on. Some have questioned how they use the money. Someone also went to their address and posted pictures of dogs there. They seemed happy and healthy. They did not appear undernourished. They are helping 67 dogs, and I can not imagine doing that without help. It would be a full-time job. If you have questions, please call Ron at 731-435-0988. Money can be put on their account. I imagine any food would be appreciated, and he could tell anyone what the needs are. We have a furbaby, and they bring so much love and companionship. I imagine our animal shelter is full. I could not afford more than my one, so I know they could use any help offered. This past weather was brutal, and those dogs would have died if not for this availability. God bless them for trying to take care of furbaby castaways.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Happy belated Birthday to Kirbi Fahs, 1-26.
Happy Birthday to Alvin Jones, 1-29; Piper Fahs, 2-1; and Billy Joe Seaton, 2-3.
Happy Anniversary to Allison and Dalton Roe, 2-3.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Carey Barham; Wesley Bates; Paula Berry; Lindsey, Justin, Waylon and Weston Bishop; Marie Bishop, Jr.; Jackie Chambers; Rickey Clayton; Jerry Cloud; Boyd Cupples; Vicki Dickson; Rachel Ellington; James Ellis; Joie Freeman; Joey Harris; Jennifer Gateley; Bro. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“Worry No More – God Knows the Score” by Helen Steiner Rice – “Have you ever been caught in a web you didn’t weave/Involved in conditions that are hard to believe/Have you ever felt you must speak and explain and deny/A story that’s groundless or a small whispered lie/Have you ever heard rumors you would like to refute/Or some telltale gossip you would like to dispute/Well, don’t be upset, for God knows the score/And with God as your judge you need worry no more/For men may misjudge you, but God’s verdict is fair/For He looks deep inside and is deeply aware/Of every small detail in your pattern of living/And always He’s fair and lenient and forgiving/And knowing that God is your judge and your jury/Frees you completely from man’s falseness and fury/And secure in this knowledge let your thoughts rise above/Man’s small, shallow judgments that are so empty of/God’s goodness and greatness in judging all men/And forget ugly rumors and be happy again.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You. Happy New Year to ALL!

Henderson Community News

Hello to my family and friends. It is good to be with you on another day that the Lord has allowed us to see. Not only has He allowed us to see a new day, He has allowed us to see another month. Remember this is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it. You can cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you! He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
Before I continue on with this column, let us pray for the families of the three soldiers that were killed and 34 others that were injured by the drone attack on Tower 22, a U.S. military outpost in Jordan near the border with Syria, on Saturday, Jan. 27. So help me to continue praying for our U.S.A.
On Sunday, Jan. 28, I did not make it to the MLK program. My husband and I were in Milan, helping to celebrate a young man’s birthday; he is my brother-in-love not brother-in-law. Pastor Marles Flowers celebrated 66 years of life! It was a wonderful celebration! It was around 8:30 p.m. when we made it back to Henderson, and it was just too late to attend the program. The City of Henderson would like to say thank you to Mr. Welch, Dr. Wood and the entire staff that organized this event! I heard it was a wonderful program!
February has made its arrival. In the United States, the month of February begins with a very odd ritual started in the late 1800s by German settlers in Pennsylvania. On Feb. 2, or “Groundhog Day,” some look to see if a groundhog sees his shadow. If he sees the shadow, the legend holds, then winter weather will last another six weeks (roughly until the first day of spring). However, if the groundhog does not see his shadow, then spring weather will come sooner.
February is Black History month. Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country’s history. This year’s theme for Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts.” African American art is infused with African, Caribbean, and the Black American lived experiences.
February is also a celebration of love. We call it Valentine’s Day. The root of Valentine’s Day goes back to ancient times when people paid honor to the Roman God of Fertility. This was known as the Feast of Lupercalia and was celebrated even then on Feb. 14. It is a time to exchange cards or small gifts. Chocolates, flowers, jewelry and romantic dinners are the big hits of this holiday. It is also a fun event for kids and family. We have 13 days to make sure everything is ready for the people we love.
Back to the groundhog! No matter what that little furry animal does, February is a frigid month across most of the country. It is the last month of winter, after all; however, signs of spring do tend to emerge by the end of the month in most parts of the country. I do not know if he saw his shadow or not. One thing I do know is that I am ready for Spring! The weather man is saying that we may have more snow coming!
Happy belated birthday to the following for the month of January: Mr. Clarence Harris celebrated his 93rd birthday on Monday, Jan. 24. To God be the Glory! Mr. Harris, we love you, and we pray the Lord will bless you with health and strength for many more birthdays! Chris Ross and Jamarius Croom celebrated their birthdays on Jan. 7. Zachary Wilson celebrated on Jan. 9. Charleston Croom has his birthday on Jan. 25. Happy Birthday to Sierra Croom, Jan. 26, Michael Joyner, Jan. 27, Lesa Croom, Jan. 28, and Alyssa Joyner, Jan. 29.
Happy birthday to Mr. Robert Bass, 2/1; we pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
The city would like to take this time to wish all of our loved ones in the Nursing Home who had a birthday this week a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
On the prayer list this week: our children in school, teachers and our men and women that are serving our country.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call me at 608-6132 and leave your message, or you may email me at gloria__holiday@msn.com. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Enville Community News

Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a great week! The temperatures are tolerable this week; the rain has stopped, and we are supposed to see sunshine, which will be so nice. It seems we have not seen it in a while.
January has gone, and February is here. We are inching closer to spring, but I am hearing that the Farmers Almanac is predicting another round of winter weather like we had in January for February. I truly hope and pray that prediction will not come to pass!
Groundhog Day is Friday, Feb. 2. Groundhog Day is a tradition observed in the United States and Canada on Feb. 2 of each year. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks, if it does not see its shadow, Spring will arrive early (www.wikipedia.org). I am sure hoping that Punxsutawney Phil does not see his shadow on the morning of Feb. 2.
Enville congratulates Tyler Pierce for being recognized as one of the top tier students at Northwest Mississippi Community College by earning a place on the President’s List for academic work in the Fall 2023 semester. The President’s list recognizes those students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Tyler was among one of over 800 outstanding full-time students to be recognized for their work. Congratulations! We like to know of our hometown outstanding students and their achievements.
Happy birthday wishes go to Teddy Hollin on Feb. 4, Delana O’Neal on Feb. 6 and Annie Beth Ashbrook on Feb. 8. Happy anniversary to Rick and Julie Ooley on Feb. 5. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for the families of Don Lipford and Wilma Frye and continue prayers for Lisa Bishop, Robert and Linda Johnson, Mary Lee Guyon, Agnes and Robert Smith, Anita Needler, Vicki Dickson, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Jean Pickett, Emily Freeman, Ashley Pugh, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Loretta Plunk, Kaye Killingsworth, Sherry Webb, Justin Godsey, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Rick Ooley, Mike Frank, Mike Pugh, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, Clint Murley, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, all who have lost loved ones and, as always, each other.
To rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 731-688-5125, or if you have news, call me at 731-608-3058. Have a blessed week everyone!
