Montezuma sends out happy birthday wishes to Becky Rowsey on Feb. 16, Kristy Hathcock and Alice Cook on Feb. 17, Anthony Cooper and Judy Greenslade on Feb. 19 and Celeste Parker on Feb. 22.
We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Annual renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Please pray for our local government and federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and Frank Naylor, Doris Ross, Donna Doyle, Carolyn Goff, Jimmy Cooper, Jeff Brewington, Melanie Pratt Hudson, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Imogene Naylor, Betty Cooper, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Wayne Frye, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Clint Murley, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Vicki Dickson and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

New Friendship and Mifflin Community News

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Are you all soaked yet? I do not know how much rain we had Sunday, but it was a lot. I know we needed the rain, but I look forward to some sunshine. The sky was a light gray, and there was a faint breeze.
Our birds have stuck with us all winter. I hope they continue to visit throughout the year. We continue to see spring birds. The forecast through Feb. 24 calls for moderate temperatures in the 50s in daytime and mostly 30s at night. Sadly, there are only two sunny days noted at this time. As we all know, Mother Nature can change in the blink of an eye.
This week includes Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Some will find out too late but better late than never. James forgot our first Valentine’s together, but he has not missed one since! It is a special day to show love for those you care for but also kindness to all. I hope everyone enjoys this day. Our furbaby Pepper enjoys the Valentine hearts by Milkbone. They are coated in flavored yogurt.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Happy birthday to DeWitt Swayne, 2-12; Johnny Hays, 2-13; Meghan Cooper, 2-14; Donna Bishop, 2-15; and Jerry Rogers, 2-17.

Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“Monarch butterflies will not attempt to fly in the rain because the raindrops will damage their delicate wings. They will rest and wait it out. It’s self-preservation. It’s okay to rest during the storms in your life. Take all the time you need. You will fly again once the storm passes.” – Sharyn Marsh
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You. Happy New Year to ALL!

Henderson Community News

Hello to my family and friends. It is a new week and a new day, and it is always a blessing to be with you! This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Well, the Super Bowl was Sunday; it has come and gone. I do not know if your team won or not.
Wednesday was Valentine’s Day, a day that has been set aside for us to show how much you love someone, but the love that you have for all of the special people in our life should not be shown only on one day; it is an everyday action. The Bible reads in 1 Peter 4:8 – “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sin.” This world would be a better place if we all showed more love toward one another.
Larry Ivery, Sr., thank you for the history of the black church Chester County article. It was very interesting! I enjoyed reading it, and I do hope others enjoy it as well. Looking forward to the second part!
Do not forget about the Seventh Annual Black History Program this Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2-4 p.m. at the Chester County Senior Center, 247 East Main St., Henderson. The theme for this year is “African Americans and The Arts.” This is a free event. I have never been disappointed in the years I have attended this great event! The program has always been educational, there is great entertainment and the event is well organized! To Amie and the committee, thank you for taking time out to make sure this event is presented every year for the past seven years for the People and the Community of Henderson. The program is not just for the Black/African American community; it is for Chester County. Hope to see you there.
To all meat lovers, did you know that Hays Cash Saver grocery store is having a ONE day meat sale on Thursday, Feb 15?! This will be a great time to stock up for the Fourth of July barbeque, family reunion, etc. Do not miss it!
The Southwest HRA Head Start would like to wish Tabitha Sampson a happy birthday! Tabitha celebrated her big day on Feb. 12. We pray you will have many more years! On Feb. 17, the city is wishing Irene Rinks and Kimberly Jones a happy birthday. Ladies, enjoy your day!
Black History Spotlight: Rosa Parks (1913—2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Ala., bus in 1955. Her actions inspired the leaders of the local Black community to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Led by a young Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the boycott lasted more than a year during which Parks not coincidentally lost her job and ended only when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional. Over the next half-century, Parks became a nationally recognized symbol of dignity and strength in the struggle to end entrenched racial segregation.
The reason I chose Ms. Parks is because as a child I can remember when my grandmother and I would ride the bus to Memphis when we had to go all the way to the back of the Greyhound bus, and I would get so sick from smelling the fumes. I would always try to sit in the front of the bus; however, my grandmother would not allow me to sit up front. I can still smell my grandmother’s hand over my nose. Thank God for Ms. Rosa Park and my grandmother Ms. Zelma Bass!
Remember to love and pray for one another, our children, our teachers, our family, the sick and shut in, our men and women that are serving our country and also the incarcerated. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town. Let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text or call me at 608-6132.
I LOVE ALL OF YOU! YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
