After completing his fourth season at Freed-Hardeman University, Coach Joshua Epperson is stepping down from his post to take the vacant position at Southeastern (Fla.) University.
“We are very appreciative of Coach Epperson and the great success he had as leader of the Lady Lions,” said FHU athletic director Jonathan Estes. “The success on the court with a conference tournament championship, national tournament appearances and top 25 rankings, but more importantly, the outstanding young women that he helped to mold in the community and in the classroom. We wish Joshua the best of luck in the future and are excited about building on the foundation that is already there. He is leaving the program in great shape.”
At the helm of the Lady Lions, Epperson compiled a 75-47 record which included three consecutive trips to the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament. In the 2022-23 season, Epperson led the team to a Mid-South Conference title and was one victory game away from advancing to the final site of the national tournament, but was knocked out by the eventual national champions.
“Thank you to the Freed-Hardeman University family and the Lady Lions supporters. My family has treasured our time in Henderson and the community has embraced us with open arms. We love our church family here and will miss them dearly,” said Epperson. “Thank you to the parents that have let our family be part of your player’s time at Freed. Thank you to the players for buying in and continuing to build on the Lady Lions basketball tradition these last four years.”
