Feeder calf sale to be held August 8

A feeder calf sale for graded steers and heifers will be held Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at the Hardin Co. Stockyard in Savannah, and is set to begin at 8 p.m. Calves will be accepted from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 and from 7 until 11 a.m. Monday morning. Consign calves by Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Rules and regulations are as follows:

  1. All beef and beef crosses of feeder cattle will be accepted.
  2. All cattle must be healthy.
  3. All male cattle must be castrated. Bull calves will be odd-lotted.
  4. Horned and odd colored calves are subject to being odd-lotted. It is recommended that all calves be dehorned.
  5. All steers and heifers will be graded according to U.S.D.A. feeder calf grades.
  6. Cattle will be penned and sold in uniform lots by breed, sex, weight and grades.
  7. Cattle must be owned by the consignor and on his farm at least 60 days prior to the sale date.
  8. All cattle should be consigned by August 3 by mailing in the form below or calling the extension office at 731-925-3441.
  9. Calves will be weighed in from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Hardin County Stockyard, Airport Road. Cattle arriving after 11 will not be processed for sale.
  10. Calves should weigh between 300 – 800 pounds.
  11. Heifers that are 18 months of age or older and younger heifers that are obviously bred will be sent home or will be held over to the regular weekly sale, tested for brucellosis and sold with the other cattle in the regular weekly sale. (Federal Regulation)
  12. The regular Hardin County Stockyard commission will be collected by the sale barn, plus grading and advertising fee.
  13. This program is open to all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, veteran status and disability.
    Wednesday, August 3, will be the deadline for reporting the number of calves you have. Return forms to your County Agent’s Office or call 731-925-3441.
