The No. 13 Lady Lions (18-5, 15-2 AMC) completed the season sweep over No. 15 Columbia (19-5, 15-3 AMC) 74-69 on Saturday afternoon, moving them into second place alone in the American Midwest Conference standings.
The Lady Lions and the Cougars matched each other exactly in total shooting (40 percent), and the Cougars out-played the Lady Lions from deep (41 percent to 38 percent) and out-rebounded the visitors (38-36), but FHU came out on top due to the 24 turnovers they forced and getting up more shots in the entire game.
Columbia led by as many as nine in the first quarter, but a couple three-point baskets from Jamie Crum and Alyssa LeMay , as well as some free throws and easy buckets, put the Lady Lions up by four after the first 10 minutes.
The Lady Lions would not trail again in the contest, going up by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars cut it all the way down to two points with just over a minute remaining, but free throws down the stretch sealed the road win.
Haylee Croom had a team-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to secure the double-double.
Caroline Chambers continued her efficient tear, scoring 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Alyssa LeMay finished with 15 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
The Lady Lions will be back at the Brewer Sports Center tonight, Thursday, Feb. 13, when they take on Central Baptist. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
