Freed-Hardeman Lions avoid being swept in series

The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (17-7, 5-4 MSC) lost the weekend series to the Saints of Thomas More University (11-8, 5-4 MSC). The Lions lost both Thursday games but were able to salvage the weekend with a win on Friday.
Senior Alex Huey got the start in Game 1 for the Lions. Huey pitched 5 scoreless innings before finally surrendering 2 runs in the sixth inning. Huey collected 4 strikeouts over 5.1 innings of work. Connor Creasy entered to pitch and finished out the inning. The Lions’ only run in the first game came from an RBI single from Mason Libla to score Kent Rooklin. The Lions were unable to overcome the 2-1 deficit in the seventh and fell.
Senior Tyler Duskin was the starting hurler for the Lions in Game 2. Duskin surrendered 6 runs over 4.1 innings with 8 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Luis Torrez Lopez entered and finished the game and held the Saints to their previously scored runs. The Lions battled and clawed their way back throughout the game and scored 4 runs after RBI hits from Sean Rooney, Zach Sanders, and Will McCall. The Lions could not overcome the Saints’ lead and lost.
Sophomore Colton Huntt got the nod to start Game 3. The Saints scored 2 runs in the first inning and the Lions only scored 1. After the first inning, the Lions’ bat erupted and tallied an impressive 14 runs in total to defeat the Saints in 7 innings. Culley entered in the seventh to finish the game.
