For the first time in his tenure, Freed-Hardeman University President David R. Shannon is scheduled to speak at the Chester County Lions Club monthly meeting Sept. 19.
Dr. Adam Phelps is the president of the local Lions Club and is a graduate of FHU along with other club members who are alumni and current and former employees at the university.
“Chester County Lions Club does so many great things for the town of Henderson and Chester County,” Shannon said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to spending time with them and telling them about great things that are happening on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University.”
The Lions Club, as an international organization, challenges its local chapters to help children and those in need to be able to see, an effort inspired by Helen Keller. They do this in Chester County by raising funds to buy glasses for those that have a hard time paying for them and providing eye screenings for students at the elementary schools in the county. They do other charitable things in the community throughout the year.
