The Lady Lions basketball team (1-0) started off its 2021-22 season with a smooth 84-56 victory over Blue Mountain College (2-1) on Saturday during Homecoming Weekend.
Blue Mountain held an 11-6 lead early in the first quarter, but that would be the only time the Toppers would lead in the entire contest. The Lady Lions started an 8-2 run to take the lead with a KJ White 3-pointer, and capped it with a Caroline Chambers layup to take a 14-13 lead, which they would not give up for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Lions dominated in all aspects, shooting 43 percent in the game from the field, compared to just 32 percent by the Toppers. They also out-rebounded Blue Mountain 52-35, had 19 total assists, to just three from their opponents, and they forced the Toppers to turn it over 13 times, which resulted in 15 points for FHU.
Three Lady Lions finished the game with double-doubles, led by Chambers, who had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
She was followed by Kinlee Varnell, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds in her Lady Lions debut, and Alyssa LeMay came away with 12 points and 11 rebounds. KJ White finished with nine points off the bench.
