Dr. Ethan Kellum, a sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, will be the featured speaker during Freed-Hardeman University’s annual Alumination Days, Nov. 10-11. He will kick off the event Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Loyd Auditorium.
Other successful FHU alumni will share their career stories with current students throughout the week, with the greatest number visiting campus Friday.
A native of Henderson, Tennessee, Kellum attended Jackson Christian School and completed a Bachelor of Science in biology from Freed-Hardeman University in 1998. He earned a medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis.
After a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Georgia, Kellum completed a surgical fellowship in sports medicine, shoulder and advanced arthroscopy at New England Baptist Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During his fellowship, he served as assistant team physician for the NBA’s Boston Celtics, and for both Harvard and Tufts University athletics.
Although Kellum still performs arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, he currently focuses on regenerative medicine, using bone marrow concentrate containing stem cells and platelet rich plasma to keep patients out of the operating room.
A member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, he has been involved in orthopedic surgery research throughout his medical career. He also has authored and co-authored several peer reviewed orthopedic surgery articles and book chapters.
Kellum’s practice, Nashville Regenerative Orthopedics, is located at 125 Cool Springs Blvd., Suite 240 Franklin, TN 37067.
Alumination Days are a part of FHU’s Homecoming Week, Nov. 7-12. A complete listing of Homecoming events may be found at fhu.edu/homecoming/schedule.
