It took a bucket with seven seconds remaining from Haylee Croom to seal the win for the Lady Lions (10-3, 7-0 AMC) to defeat Williams Baptist (8-4, 4-3 AMC) 62-58 in the first game back from Christmas break on Saturday Jan 4.
The visitors led by as many as 20 points in the game, but foul trouble and a few big runs from the Lady Eagles made things very uncomfortable for the defending AMC Champions. Croom played the entire fourth quarter with four fouls, but she was able to knock down the go-ahead shot with seven seconds to go and give her team the win.
The All-American senior became the sixth Lady Lion to surpass the 1,000 career rebounds mark. She did it in the first period of play, needing seven to reach the milestone. She would go on to finish the game with 16 rebounds and 16 points to complete the double-double.
It was a strong game for Chynia Brooks as well, who led all scorers with 22 points, including two free throws with six seconds to go to ice the game.
