Hello to everyone! It is truly a blessing to be with my family and friends one more time. Thank you for taking time to read our hometown paper. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be GLAD in it!
November is a very special month for me. Why? Because it is a month that we honor our veterans around the world – veterans who fought for our freedom and risked their lives whether or not some realize it or appreciate it. Without the service of veterans, we would not have the freedoms we have today. Another reason is because on Nov. 10, 2023, the USMC will celebrate 248 years of service. Yes! I am a proud Marine that served MY country 21 years from 1973-1994. I am proud to say that several members of my family also served – my husband Pastor Frank Holiday, Sr. (USMC/Army, retired), my brothers Mr. Larry “Henry” Brown (USMC, retired) and Mr. Dennis Brown (USMC). Happy Birthday to all of my Marine brothers and sisters. Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful)! It just did not stop with the Marines; we had other siblings to join the ranks – Mr. Dexter Brown (US Army), my sister Mrs. Audria Brown Dunn (US Army) and my nephew Edward Reeves (US Air Force, Airman First Class).
My husband and I are proud parents to say that we have children who have also served – Mrs. Maria Holiday-Chenelo (LT. US Air Force) and our son Captain Frank Holiday, Jr. (US Army). Yes! We are PROUD to be Americans and to serve for all people in the United States of America. To honor members of the military, the following restaurants are offering veterans free meals on or around Veterans Day – IHOP — Veterans and active-duty military get free Red, White, & Blueberry Pancakes or Pancake Combo on from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov, 11. Dine-in only at participating restaurants; Dunkin’ — Veterans and active-duty military get a free donut of their choice on Nov. 11 at participating locations. Offer available in-store only; Applebee’s — On Nov, 11, active-duty military, veterans, reserves and National Guard that dine in restaurant get a complimentary full-size entrée from a special menu. They will also receive a $5 Bounce Back Card to redeem for dine-in, To Go or delivery within a three-week redemption window; Casey’s General Stores — Casey’s is offering any size complimentary coffee or fountain drink to all veterans on Nov. 11; Chili’s — Veterans and active-duty service members get a free meal from a select menu on Nov. 11 with proof of service. Available for in-restaurant only; Logan’s Roadhouse — Veterans and active-duty military personnel get a free meal with a valid ID from a special menu at participating locations on Nov. 11. This offer is available from 11 a.m.– 3 p.m for dine-in only; O’Charley’s – O’Charley’s offers veterans and active-duty military a special free lunch menu on Nov. 10 and 11. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, veterans can order one free entrée from the special menu and/or receive a free slice of pie at dinner. Both offers are for dine-in only. These are just a few I have named. Check around to locate many more locations.
To all who are Veterans in the USA/and around the World: Thank YOU for your many sacrifices where you are putting your lives in danger to keep our country free. To every wife, husband, son, daughter, mother, and father, you have made also many sacrifices yourself. So many times you are forgotten. The city also thanks you for your love and understanding when your loved one is not at home for you!
On Nov. 11, there will be a fundraiser for cancer survey Eboni Burton McGowan starting at 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Cool Springs M. B. Church located at 306 Harmon Street, Henderson, 38340. Eboni is the daughter of Sister Vivian Kelly. For the price of $12, come and pick up your BBQ Chicken Plate served with baked beans, potato salad and a roll. The City would like to say Happy Birthday to Ms. Amie Croom on Nov. 7! We pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
On the prayer list – Ms. Valerie Griggs is requesting for us to pray for Mr. Charles McNatt in the loss of his father last weekend. She is also asking prayers for her niece in the loss of her baby boy. His funeral was last Saturday. Pray for the Harris and Cawthon family. Please pray for the family of Mr. William Howell, Jr. Our condolences go out to his wife Mrs. Linda Howell and children. Mr. Howell was a very dear friend to many and one very special person I know, Mr. Larry Locke. They were golfing buddies. Let us pray for all bereaved families that have lost a loved one. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text or call me at 608-6132. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
