Hello to everyone! For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad! I am so delighted to be with you one more time. It is only by the grace of God that we are here. With all of the heartbreaking news – tragedies, killings, politics, just to name a few – surrounding us, my heart goes out to the families affected the most. As we celebrate and prepare for the Holidays, remember those that are less fortunate and keep them in our prayers.
I was sitting at the computer and thinking about how fast this year has gone. We have less than 25 days left in the year of 2023. It would be so nice just to take it slow and easy; however, we can not because Christmas is only 18 days away. I hope most of you have started or finished your shopping and can relax and enjoy the Holidays. However, me and my household are not ready. We did not hit any of the sales, like many of you. I just wanted to remember why we celebrate the season.
The annual Henderson Christmas Parade is at 7 p.m. Dec. 7. The parade is a great way to get our Christmas spirits in high gear! I hope you will come out, and if you have children, bring them to enjoy the parade. Dec. 8-9 will be our Hometown Holiday Shopping Weekend; do not forget to shop at the any participating stores or restaurants.
While you are out shopping on Dec. 8, drive down just a little further on hwy 100 to our Chickasaw State Park for the lighting of the Park. Drive through the park and enjoy the lights and celebrate the Christmas season from the comfort of your very own vehicle. If you do not make it on the Dec. 8, you can go from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 9 or Dec. 10. Great news – there is no charge for this event! Donations are accepted at the exit to help cover the costs.
Last week was a very sad week for so many of us! Our condolences go out to Mrs. Elsie Jean Wilson Burton’s and Ms. Linda Patterson’s families; there are no words to tell you how sorry we are to hear about your loved ones. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Praying for peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is on Dec. 7. The day honors the 2,403 victims killed in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. It is a tradition to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff until sunset in honor of dead patriots. Let us not forget!
It is Happy Birthday and Belated Birthday wishes time to Stella Garland, 12/5; Bliss McEarl, 12/5; Verlene Burton, 12/7; Mary Ross, 12/8; Kim Mack, 12/9; Derrick Croom, 12/15; and Pamela Massengill Stewart, 12/16; James Burton, 12/17; and Shay Croom, 12/29. Your family and friends pray you will have a blessed birthday and many more.
Prayer request: Ms. Valerie Griggs is requesting prayer for her family in St. Louis. Her cousin passed away. Continue to pray for the Lancaster Family, the Burton family, the Patterson family and the Wilson family.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town during this Holiday season; let us try to support our own as much as we can. Remember to be safe!
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text or call me at 608-6132.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
