Greetings from Hickory Corner!
The hustle and bustle of holiday shopping is in full swing. Do not forget to shop local as much as you can. Let us try to keep our money in our community so our businesses can grow.
I heard there was a great turnout for the downtown Christmas Parade. It had a lot of great looking floats, marching bands and lots of candy being thrown out to the kids. It was reported that Santa was at the end waving to all the boys and girls from the top of a fire truck. Shout out to New Home Baptist Church for Best Religious Float. I know a lot of work and time went into making all the floats. Thank you to all who made the parade possible.
For those interested, there is a “Lighting Of the Park” at Chickasaw from 6-9 p.m. on December 9, 10 and 11. My son took me last year, and it was really beautiful.
Ho Ho Ho! Our HCC Christmas party will be held at noon this Saturday, Dec. 10. A potluck meal will be served around noon. The Center will furnish the ham and asks that you bring your favorite dish and/or dessert. We will be a drawing for Mr. and Mrs. Santa, Rudolph and Elves. Everyone likes to play bingo so bring some bingo gifts. If you would like to participate in the Christmas gift exchange, then ladies should bring a five dollar gift for a lady and men should bring a gift for a man. Do not miss out on good food, fellowship and fun. It is a great way to start off the Christmas season. We have new families that have moved into our community. To those new to our community, please know you are welcome to come join us. Lonnie Morton called from Memphis today. He and Shirley are planning on coming to the Christmas party at the Center.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Brenda Patterson (12/10) and Elizabeth Patterson Roten (12/27), both daughters of Mary Patterson and the late James Alvin Patterson. Wishing you ladies a very special day!
It sounds like the flu season has arrived as I have heard of many being sick with the flu. On top of this, we are still dealing with COVID and cold season, too. Consider getting a flu shot. Keep those hands washed and stay home when you are sick to prevent from spreading germs. As much as I do not want to, I am considering bringing back my mask and wearing it when out and about, especially around crowds. Let us all try and stay well.
Our community expresses sympathy to the family of Liz Kinchen. I remember one time she donated barbeque to the Hickory Corner Center fundraiser. Sympathy to the family of Mildred Shields of Bolivar. Mildred is the sister to the late Billy Martin and sister-in-law to Bonice Martin of Hickory Corner. Also, sympathy to the family of Inetha Maness Robison of Finger. Inetha is the mother to Teresa (Kenneth) Burkhead of Hickory Corner.
Remember in prayer Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for a special event or for your Christmas party, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
I need your support for this article. Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share your vacations, birthday, anniversaries and much more. I need to hear from you.
Make it a great week!
