Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Last Monday was a beautiful day. I am thankful that our temperatures were out of the 90s and that it was less humid. Ruger and I got back to walking. He is getting slower but always ready to go with me, and just like me, he is ready to rest a little when we get back. Ruger does lie around most days.
Happy birthday to those who have birthdays in September: Nancy Holmes, 9/1; my son Terry Patterson, 9/3; Janice Weaver, 9/5; Joyce Clayton, 9/6; and Bonice Martin, 9/19. Wishing all of you a blessed and great day as you celebrate your special day!
A little history lesson: do you ever think that so much is happening today in our world? Well, a lot was happening during the 1960s: the Cuban Missile Crisis had the world worried about another World War in 1962; John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963; President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964; President Martin Luther King was assassinated in1968; the Vietnam War was taking place along with the anti-war movement; and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldridge were the first men to land on the moon in 1969. The average cost of gas in the 1960s was only 31 cents compared to the average cost of gas today at $3.82. (thepeoplehistory).
Many of you have may have heard, but for those who have not heard my big news, well, here it is…I will be moving in a few weeks to Pekin, Ill., where my three children live. I have bought a townhouse in a 55 plus community. This is bittersweet for me, as I am excited to be living so close to my children and grandchildren, yet I will miss the many friends and family I will be leaving behind. It is very hard to leave my home. Hickory Corner Community has been a great place to live since my James and I moved back home in 1987. So much has happened here in the last 36 years. The HCC Center gave us a place to gather with friends and neighbors, and we have had lots of fun times there. I hope it will continue to be that kind of place for all of you. I have written the community news for almost 20 years and will miss writing but do not worry! You will hear from me still for the next few weeks. If there is anyone who is interested in taking over the community news, please let me know and get in touch with the paper. Oh, and as long as I stay healthy, I will return to see all of you!
Please remember in prayer Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Bonice Martin, Peggy Lard, Donna Lynch and Lonnie Morton. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me. I do not like to add/remove a name without permission.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for a special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
I need to hear from you! Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share vacations, birthdays, anniversaries, memories, and much more. I look forward to hearing from you.
Make it a great week!
