Chester County High School has selected Kody Howard to become its next head coach of boys’ basketball.

On May 29 the Independent was informed of this decision by CCHS Athletic Director Clay Murley.

Howard is currently a middle school teacher in the Dyersburg system and assistant coach of the Dyersburg High School Trojans. He has previous high school head coaching experience at Lake County from 2015 to 2017.

Howard replaces Drew Stutts who left CCHS after only one season to return to his previous employer, Freed-Hardeman University, as men’s basketball coach there. However, that one season for Stutts was special, leading the Eagles to 19 victories and the regional semi-finals for the first time in 15 seasons.

Howard is a 2015 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a major in business administration and minor in secondary education. In 2014 at MTSU he was named Business Education Student of the Year.

His resume lists two separate occasions as boys assistant at Dyersburg and assistant girls’ coach at Lake County, as well as coach and for Lake County Middle School. He was Middle School head boys’ coach at Dyersburg this past season with a 14-3 record and Northwest Tennessee Coach of the Year.
