Ingleside-Pentagon Club held February meeting in Chester County

Joan and Carolyn Swift, co-hostesses for February, welcomed the following members of the Ingleside-Pentagon Club to their lovely home: Patsy Barber, Christine Carroll, Becky Cyr, Regina East, Junie Gilliam, Beverly Hardin, Caroline Johnson, Janice Kent, Nancy Lofton, Laurel Sewell, Kay Tignor, Ann Tucker and Ann Woods.
After a brief business meeting Laquita Thompson, Freed-Hardeman University Art teacher and a member of the Historical Society, presented the program on the history of the Purdy Community through the story of two doctors, Dr. Clark Kendal and Dr. Daniel Barrie. Purdy was the County Seat of McNairy County (Henderson Station was also in McNairy County at this time), but because some of the residents did not want the railroad to come through Purdy and they were successful at preventing it from coming through, Purdy declined. After the Civil War the county seat was moved closer to the railroad, and the town was practically abandoned.
Delicious refreshments were served after the program. Door prizes were won by Regina East and Nancy Lofton.
