Dec. 14 brought the quarterly meetings of Jacks Creek Community Club dinner to a delightful ending of a blessed year. Thirty-five happy folks with three visitors, Dorothy Brown, and Ralph and Linda Daneker’s daughter and grandson, Tracy and Jack were in anticipation of BELLS ringing and singing!
Bell twins, Frank and Kay, sang with joy reaching high notes! We all gathered at tables filled with pretty and good foods. There was not a fire in the fireplace because Mr. Figueroa (Spanish name meaning “fig tree”) did not have a log to put on the invisible fire! That is what imagination is for in the eyes of children, and aren’t we all children at Christmas?
We all kept looking around for the sight of black boots, red and white suit, jingle bells ringing and a cheerful Ho Ho Ho. Well, he finally appeared at the end of the meal. Big eyes were Anita (Larry) Lambert, Regina (Mike) Brooks, Sharon Boothe, Kay (Bob) Ivy, Ann (Jerry) Lowe, Joy (Al) McKinnon, Tania Weaver, Lois Smith, Audra and Shelley (Dale) Middleton, Janis (Joel) McCall, Juanita Waller, Sylvia Grissom, Pat (Don) Jones and others who Santa knows were holding their breaths. We all saw Santa’s “switches” in his bag. All were good little girls and boys except for two — poor ole Judy Bell and Sally (Harold) Duke had long lips while Bud Butler had a long beard. Yes, they received switches and no picture with Santa Claus, but others and Pat Jones sat beside Santa and added a rose kiss to his jolly ole face. Thank goodness, Virginia…there is a Santa Claus. I know he exists because he and JCCC members and guests sang “Happy Birthday” to another jolly ole guy named Ralph Mays while son, Mickey, smiled proudly. He turns 90 plus one on New Year’s Day. May he live longer than our oldest unforgotten member, Murdell Barker, age 101 plus six months (2-19-1919 to 8-26-2020).
Our next JCCC dinner dates to mark on your 2024 calendar are March 14; June 13; Sept. 12; and Dec. 12 – all on the second Thursday of quarterly months.
