“There is no death because what God created shares His life.” – unknown
Our community expresses sympathy to the family of Novelee James Massengill (10-27-33 to 7-9-2022), widow of Max Massengill. Her brother Harold and I attended high school together. He was a good brother, often sharing meals and spending the night with her.
Prayers requested for Ralph Mays; Ruby Sue Malone is improving since her fall near Mother’s Day. She is thankful for Lisa Brasfield moving in to help her and Prince Charles. Then there is Charlotte Joyner; Shane Martin, son-in-law of Jerry and Betty Newman; Martha Bell Climer; Jimmy Liles, eldest son of George; Judy Jones; Paul Schilling – husband of Ann Bright Schilling; Tommy Patterson; Brenda Johnson; and Harold James. Larry Lambert is improving, and Johnny Hays is better.
Regina Brooks and I visited Jimmy Liles recently. We went to Jacks Creek School and know all the dirt on us and the other kids. We were a close school family. Regina’s new rain coat was passed around to the kids headed to the outhouse. I think I wore it once plus Mrs. Mae Rhodes’s rain bonnet. The kids laughed at my appearance, but I did not get wet, so the joke was on them! It was raining cats and dogs, but when you “gotta go, you gotta go,” and Mrs. Mae knew me.
Pauline Climer Smith, widow of the former Sheriff of Chester County, R.D. Smith, had a BIG surprise. Family and friends were gathered to celebrate with her as she aged 85 in front of their eyes. It was a real surprise! Nearly 100 folks joined in for a great meal with leftovers. It is never too late to send belated cards either.
Jimmy Liles celebrated his birthday on July 12. He turned 72 years old.
Luke and Beulah Holmes Nobles’s two grandchildren, Danny Ross and Carolyn N. Ross, celebrated July 4 birthdays. One was born 1960, and the other, 1947. You can figure that out on your own. I called each one to wish them a good day. I had to leave a message on one service. I should have sung Happy Birthday – that would ruin the machine for sure.
Tenderly remember five birthdays being celebrated in heaven – beloved oldest and wisest Enville lady, Inez W. Cash turns 101 on July 17;Velma Moten, the great caregiver at healthcare, turned 105 on July 19; Ike Kinchen served lots of tender loving BBQ to many from his pit turned 85 on July 2; Jack Bulliner, banker, turned 91 on July 11; and junior high teacher, Cynthia Edgar Vogt, turned age 74 on July 5.
Sweet memory – Ralph Mays told Inez Cash he was going to give her a special gift. He gave her a $100 worth of paid meals at a local eatery. On her 2022 birthday, he told her she would get $200. He was really looking forward to her July 17 birthday. Ralph was the one who told me our dear friend was gone. It was a sad day. I went to the funeral and loved all true words spoken about her, especially by Eddie Walker. Can’t you hear her say, “Now, Hon….”
Tenderly Gathel Holmes Butler Latham leaving us July 18, 2017 – she was so much fun and she so loved her family. Regina Brooks and I went to visit her a few days before she died and it would be the last time we spoke to her. She asked us to come to her funeral and stay for the dinner because there would be a lot of good food by great cooks and she made the sweetest expression with her eyes and mouth; and George Johnson left us July 20, 2017 – he fit right into the Maness family so well with Barbara (Barbie Doll) Maness Johnson. He was a good organizer for our Maness family tree. I called him “George of the Jungle.” He was fun and is missed.
Hello to sweet smiling Lounelle Morris Grissom, Faye Morris, Betty Richardson, Geralene Thompson, Nancy Stovall, Andy and Doris Maness, Pat Evans, Mary Bolen and Hershey Cocoa; Sharon Boothe, Kathy Tignor Belew, Phyllis McEarl, Jack and Terra O’Neal, Cousin Betty Parrish Haggard; Linda Massengill; Freddie Ross in Texas; Reba Croom; Netha Ross; Kenneth Clement; Jerry Hearn; Brenda Meek Ada; Carolyn Ada Griffin; and Donette Rhodes Ada.
Tenderly remember Juanita Waller recalling her July 17 anniversary with Mr. Robert. Also, remember Liz Kinchen as she recalls her July 14 anniversary with Mr. Ike. Love and memories cling to the heart. Also, Juanita Canada left us July 18, 2016, and Brenda Connor left us July 12, 2017. Her son carries his parents’ pictures in his billfold side-by-side.
Happy 52nd anniversary to Don Jones on July 17. He is the twinkle in my eye, and the grunt in his throat is just special when he tries to get me up on my feet again after a fall. I think we would win “Funniest Video” if we would allow that scene to play out to the audience. As Mama Beck once said, “Once I could run, jump, and skip”…..
PONDER ABOUT THIS — Would you rather look fit, but be incredibly weak or look overweight and out-of-shape, but be super strong?
