Jessie Lee Thomas, 90, of Henderson passed away Thursday morning at her home in Henderson. Funeral services were 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Cave Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating with burial following in Cave Springs Cemetery. The family received friends from noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born in Henderson County on Oct. 9, 1929, daughter of the late Alger and Dovie Brown Smith. She grew up in Henderson County.
She married Major Wayne Thomas in Sept. 1948, and they made their home in Chester County. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death in Oct. 1998 after 50 years together. She worked at Salant & Salant Manufacturing for 15 years and later worked as a cook for West Chester Elementary School for 17 years. She was a faithful member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health declined. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family whom she dearly loved.
She is survived by her three sons, Jackie (Carolyn) Thomas, Johnny (Lorena) Thomas and Jimmy Thomas all of Henderson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a loving caretaker, Lori Turner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Dennis Thomas; three brothers, E. C. Smith, Bobby Smith and an infant twin brother; and two sisters, Opal Austin and Ola Hart.
