The Chester County Library recently began construction on a long-awaited expansion at their current location, 1012 E. Main St. in Henderson. With the expansion process in mind, the library has announced an extended closure to begin Nov. 6. Director Savannah Gilbert released the following statement this week:
Chester County Library Director, staff, and Board Members would like to happily announce that the expansion and renovation of our facilities has officially begun. We had a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Oct. 16. The Chester County Library Board and Director have worked together for several months alongside our architect and E&T to determine the best way to structure the construction work with the least amount of interruption in service to our valued patrons.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 6, the library will temporarily close to the public to allow staff and volunteers the time needed to pack all of the materials in the library, TN room, conference room, staff work areas and to move furniture out so the construction on the inside of the building can occur. When items are packed and moved, E&T will be able to begin work on the inside of the building, a portion of which staff will not be able to be in the building for. Rest assured, we will update bi-weekly the status of construction and that the closures are going to kept as short as safely able. Please be aware that when visiting the library during these next two weeks, construction will be going on and it may be noisy or messy when you visit.
Library staff have worked vigilantly to find options for printing, faxing services, scanning services, setting up a free little library, and reading material options. These are detailed on our website at https://chestercountylibrary.net/about/expansion/. If you have a Chester County Library card, be sure to utilize Libby on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. We have a short instructional video and instructions for how to get started on our website.
Books, Audiobooks, DVDs: We will continue providing these items until the closure begins. The last day to check out these materials will be Saturday, Nov. 4. We ask that materials be returned in the dropbox. Please do not hold onto them for the entire closure!
Interlibrary Loans: All interlibrary loans need to be returned by Wednesday, Nov. 15. We will stop making ILL requests on Friday, Oct. 20. This will allow for the courier to deliver any requests prior to our closure.
Hotspots: Hotspots will not be available for checkout after Wednesday, Oct. 25. Please continue to return hotspots on their due date as they will be shut off after they are overdue for three days. You may also be responsible for replacement charges if they are not returned prior to our closure.
We cannot wait to see what this expansion/renovation brings to our future and thank you for your patience during this time and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
