The Lions basketball team (1-2) came out hot in the first half, but Bethel (3-2) was able to make proper halftime adjustments and hold off the visitors to win 84-79 on Thursday Nov. 14.
It couldn’t have been a better start for the Lions offensively, as they were able to go 11-for-17 from deep in the first 20 minutes, mostly behind junior John Musselwhite who went 7-for-7 from the field and 6-for-6 from deep to score 20 first-half points.
Things turned around, though, for the Wildcats in the second half. They were able to hold the Lions to 4-for-20 from deep and 10-for-28 from the field, erasing the nine-point halftime deficit to outscore FHU 42-28 in the second half.
The Wildcats forced the Lions to turn the ball over 20 times in the game. While the Lions out-rebounded Bethel in the match 46-43, the Wildcats were able to pull down 17 offensive rebounds, which led to 17 second-chance points.
Musselwhite finished the contest with a game-high 24 points, and he pulled down eight rebounds. Kortand Martin had a strong game with 16 points on four 3-pointers, and Konstantin Dotsenko rounded out the double-digit scoring with 15 points.
Hunter Scurlock and Bryan Battle led the in rebounds with 10 each.
