Freed-Hardeman University’s Lion soccer team had a big second half to top the Ambassadors of Oakwood (Ala.) University 5-1.
Allowing their usual starters to rest, Freed-Hardeman (6-4-2, 0-1-0 MSC) was in a defensive battle throughout the first half until Malachai Albrecht sent a beautiful through pass to Javier Maruri who made a move around the keeper to send his first career goal into a wide open net at 36:02.
It was a big second half from FHU that downed Oakwood (0-2-1, 0-1-0 GCAC) that began with a cross from the right side to the left where Avery Flener beat the keeper to the ball and sent it into the back of the net to put FHU on top 2-0 at 66:04.
Two minutes later, Seabata Ts’emane went to the goal line at 68:00, who centered a pass back to the box where a waiting Albrecht sent it to the left side of the net for the first goal of his career. Lawson Ashby would later send a cross pass to a waiting Tyson Campbell who had a one-touch chip shot into the net at 81:51. The Lions would finish their offensive afternoon after the Lions, for the third straight time, crossed it from the right side to the middle, this time from Campbell to Luke Summitt who was there to one-touch it to the bottom-left of the net to give the true freshman his first career goal and give the Lions the 5-1 victory.
Playing 77 minutes, Nicolas Bastos earned his first career victory with one save. Orlando Whiteside gave up one goal in the final 12:59.
