After a couple weeks of being postponed due to the winter weather, the Henderson community still honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, January 28. The program’s messenger was Dr. Larry Ivery who shared with the audience some of the history of African Americans’ struggle. He recited Mark 16:15 of the Bible in his message saying how “we ought to be preaching the gospel to every creature. That the concern ought to be about the souls of everybody,” and how that used to not be done in the nation’s past. It was Dr. King who paved the way for black citizens of the United States to be equally treated and equally concerned about. In addition to the message, a proclamation was given by Henderson Mayor Bobby King in recogninzing Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Henderson MLK Committee recognized Mr. John L. Welch for all of the countless hours he has served the community in a variety of ways. Pictured at the top left to right is Dr. Ivery and Minister Lewis Thompson.
