Local students participated in Chester County’s Great American Cleanup

Keep Chester County Beautiful hosted a successful Great American Cleanup event on Friday, joined by Mayor Barry Hutcherson, agricultural students from Chester County High School, Chester County Sheriff’s Department, Keep TN Beautiful, Nobody Trashes TN, Chester County Solid Waste Department, and other community volunteers.
“Today’s clean-up event raised awareness about litter prevention,” KCCB’s Amber Greene said. “Everyone who volunteered, especially the students, came away with a new appreciation for keeping Chester County beautiful. It is definitely a team effort. We appreciate everyone volunteering.”
First Lady Maria Lee sent a video message to students encouraging them to have fun and to continue serving their community, a highlight of the day.
Celebrating March as Keep Tennessee Beautiful Month, Friday was also part of KTnB’s latest campaign, Trashercise. Trashercise, launched statewide by KTnB, is a roadway clean-up campaign that encourages litter pick-up while promoting the exercise benefits of the activity.
The group cleaned up a 3-mile area along Talley Store Road and Old Jack’s Creek Road in Henderson.
Litter is an enormous burden to the state both financially and ecologically, costing the state more than $15 million annually. In order to end littering, behavioral changes and public awareness are an absolute necessity.
