Hello to everyone from this little corner of the world. Our birds are returning to feed more often. The heat was putting a damper on everything; even swimming is not as fun when the water is really warm. Our grass is browning out in places, but praise the Lord for the rain we have had!
I hope everyone that had a three-day weekend for the Fourth enjoyed it and stayed safe. Remember what we are celebrating when we celebrate July 4th, Independence Day. This day represents our legal separation of The Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain in 1776. Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams are the only two signatories of the Declaration of Independence to serve as presidents of the United States. Both died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Happy birthday to our nation and may God bless and be with us.
Marla, Kevin and Kendyl Davidson, along with Brooklynn Walls, spent a week in Gulf Shores, Ala. Phil and Kathy Rizika of Park City, Utah, spent some time recently with Rachel Ellington during the passing of Lola Austin, Kathy’s mom and Rachel’s sister who recently passed away and was buried at Unity. Sadly, there are only three children left from this family of 12 children. I offer my condolences to you all. God bless.
Rachel Ellington and Cissy Nichols spent Friday, July 8, at Belmont College in Nashville to visit Rachel’s granddaughter Sarah Utley as she delivered her research paper on DNA. Sarah will be going into her third year at Belmont as a medical student and is looking forward to shadowing Dr. Sickle with WTBJ in Jackson and will be visiting her grandmother Rachel during that time.
Connor Utley is continuing his studies at Auburn and is in his senior year. He is getting his degree in Electrical Engineering.
Happy birthday to Phyllis Wood, 7-3; Dwain Seaton, Jr. and Kim Robinson, 7-5; Brett Seaton, 7-7; Mallan Morris and Will Seaton, 7-9; De Scott, 7-13; Bryan McMorris, 7-15; and Tracy Lovell and Gaylan Connor, 7-16.
Happy anniversary to Bro. Glenn and Judy Harris, 7-3; Stephanie and Darren Hatch, 7-6; Pat and Faye Connor, 7-10; Chastity and David King, 7-12; and Donna and Matt Dickey, 7-15.
Please continue to remember these in prayer: Randy Baker, Sheila Berry, Joe Bingham, Marie Bishop, Robert and Joyce Brewer, J.T. and Jeanette Butler, Jackie Chambers, LaVelle Page, Pam Priddy, Jesse Pugh, Todd Rencher, Jake Richardson, Donald Rowlett, Frances Smith, David Tucker, Tony Tucker, and Adam Wise. Also, please pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and its leaders, and first responders. There are many sick and hurting. Please say a prayer; even if you do not know their name, God does. Prayer is not an obligation; it is the greatest privilege we have. Pray yourself through each day.
“I’m Patriotic” by Lenore Hetrick – “There isn’t a thing that I won’t do/To show my feelings today/I’m patriotic right through and through/And I hope I stay that way/With such a country as this one is/I’d better be waving the flag/When I have a land like mine to cheer/I’m not the person to lag/And the Fourth of July demands the best/It calls for all I’ve got/Firecrackers, cheers and plenty of flags/To make the day a jackpot/I’m patriotic, you just bet/I’ll make a grand display/And when I’ve finished be sure it’ll be/Time to call it a day.
I pray you all have a wonderful week, and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are ‘hungry’ for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
