Hello to all from this little corner of the world! The sun was shining on Saturday, and the sky was a gorgeous blue. There was an occasional slight breeze. We are now officially into October – YAY! Fall is my favorite time of year, and it was my mother’s. Birds are visiting, but our hummers seem to be gone now. The nights are much cooler, but that is fine with me. We turn on the heat at night but are okay with nothing during the day. I am enjoying this part of fall, too. The farmers are continuing to gather their crops, and I still see some cotton and soybeans out there.
James went down to get some stew this morning at Mifflin and came home empty handed. He said they were almost sold out at 11 a.m., and there was a line waiting. Oh well, we tried, but I am glad they had a great turnout. Also glad we have a backup – homemade chili. Yum. Either one is good.
Breast cancer awareness started Saturday and goes throughout this month. Please be sure to do self checks and get mammograms as needed or recommended by your doctor. Men can also have breast cancer, so while you are in the shower, check for any suspicious lumps or thickening in your breast. It is much better to catch something early. Praying for all those affected by this horrible disease.
I imagine several of y’all know that COVID is still out there and increasing! I pray it does not get bad, but the ones I know are having a rough time. Also, the quick tests say negative, and a day or two later, some are showing positive. I am seeing some people wearing masks. I encourage everyone to social distance and absolutely wash your hands or keep antibacterial gel with you or in the car. Just think – pumping gas, handling money, touching your car door handle, keys, etc. Do not touch your face while out. Anything is better than nothing. Also, do not visit sick, elderly or immunocompromised if you THINK you are sick.
James is missing Pat Connor at the trash depot (I don’t like “dump”). We wish you God’s comfort and healing. Mind your doctor while you recuperate. God bless.
Happy birthday to Brianne Matheney, 10-2; Charlie Butler, 10-5; and Martha Mainord and Rachel Connor, 10-8.
Please continue to remember these in prayer: Randy Baker, Shelia Berry, Joe Bingham, Marie Bishop, Robert and Joyce Brewer, Jeanette Butler, Doy Carter, Jackie Chambers, Pat Connor, Brenda Dudley, Judy Harris, Pat Nobles Jones, Eva Jones, Martha Mainord, LaVelle Page, Pam Priddy, Jesse Pugh, Logan Rencher, Todd Rencher, Jake Richardson, Donald Rowlett, Dwain Seaton, Jr. David Tucker, Tony Tucker, Adam Wise and Rachel Ellington, and pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“The Old Swing” by Randy Flanagan – “The seat is just an old board/Two ropes tied to the oak tree/Sometimes when it swings with the wind/All the yesterdays I can see/Tiny feet reaching for the sky/Little hands holding on tight/Wings stretching way too high/Giving Grandpa such a fright/Outside voices and childish giggles/Songs repeating nursery rhymes/Push me higher please Grandma/These old eyes see happy times/The swing seems to last forever/Now the ropes retied in a big knot/It’s amazing with just a board and a rope/The many Blessings I got/I still see my Mother swinging/A little girl’s smile upon her face/Grandma holding onto each child/Beneath this tree a special place/The color changes from Summer to Fall/And though now for me it’s Autumn/The beauty of each Spring I’ll recall/That old oak tree a canopy of green/My Family Branches swinging in the shade/I remember the day we hung the old swing/Thank You Lord for all the pictures made.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy , peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
