Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Wednesday was cloudy and 61 degrees with a very slight breeze noted. The birds are few for us at this time.
We had rain on Friday. As we all know, we have been in a drought per the weather forecasters and could surely use some rain. The temperatures ahead are forecasted to be in the 60s daytime and 30s during the night. Well, I guess it is getting to be that time of year as we are heading into the last of November.
I looked at the grocery ads today to see if there were any spectacular (haha) sales for Thanksgiving. I guess even the grocers can only afford to give a few cuts to encourage shopping there. I have not personally noticed lower prices. I also have noticed that people continue to shop at all the stores and eat out. It is amazing to me. I feel for the single parents or one person working in a household trying to buy groceries but at least gas has gone down some. I am thankful for that. I guess my mother stretched the dollar, and my sister and I were oblivious to it. We never heard personal discussions at our house. We had vegetables, spaghetti, cornbread, meatloaf, homemade pancakes and pot roast. We occasionally had hamburgers fried and put in REAL scratch gravy and chicken and dumplings. These are just some of the things I grew up on. Both parents were great cooks. We had cereal, oats, and sugared toast for weekday morning breakfasts. We had occasional desserts. Saturdays was our special day! We had delicious hamburgers, maybe chips – I do not remember – and a coke and watched “Savad Your Monster of Ceremonies” out of Memphis. Now, that was a wonderful memory. I would love to hear some memories from those who would like to share. I can use your name or just put “reader” and let others guess. My email is at the end of this article. We all like to see a “peek” into memories from long ago.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
I hope everyone can enjoy this Thanksgiving and please remember to give thanks for blessings seen and unseen. They are there. Andy and Doris Maness have both recently passed on now, and it will be a sad and different holiday season for their family this year. Many are sick or have health or financial issues going on, and we need to remember the less fortunate during the holidays especially. James lost his best friend recently – William “Duke” Howell. He worked a lot of years with him at H&M Const. James said he was the best boss he ever had. They all will be missed. There is never a good time to lose someone you love.
Happy birthday to Seth Massngill, 11-20; Glen McCaskill, 11-22; and Kathy Pounds, Hunter Butler and Mark Morris, 11-24.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Tim Barham, Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Robert Brewer, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Jerry Cloud, Boyd Cupples, Vicki Dickson, James Ellis, Joie Freeman, Joey Harris, Jennifer Gateley, LaDawn Hayes, Johnny Hays, Danny Hodges, Donna Johnson, Pat N. Jones, Shirley Kendrick, Sue Lewis, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Deana Morris, Tom and Cissy Nichols, LaVelle Page, Julia Parchman, Betty Perry, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, Pam Priddy, Karon Reinmann, Aaron Rees, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, David Tucker, Tony Tucker, John Webb, Adam Wise, and Katherine Wyatt.
Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
Give thanks! Slow down and enjoy the journey right now. Take time for the people in your life. They won’t always be there.
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings.
Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
