The end of the semester always brings exciting things at Chester County High School. Along with the end-of-semester tests, the middle of December brings several fun things for students and community members alike. Each December, basketball is in full force. The boys and girls are scheduled to play in tournaments over the break, at Dyersburg and USJ, respectively. They also have a matchup scheduled for the December 22 at home versus South Gibson. Recently, both teams suffered losses at the hands of Southside and hope to get back on track over the break.
Some students will be unable to support the Eagle Basketball team, as they will be travelling to exciting places over the break, such as Rilee Vest.
“In 2010, I experienced my first ever trip to Disney. My mom saved up so that I could have this great experience. I was 6 years old at the time and don’t remember much. Now, looking back, I don’t really remember what I actually did at Disney or if I even enjoyed it. My parents decided they would surprise me with a trip to Disney this year. I did not think I was going to be able to go because of COVID-19 and the challenges it brings to travel. Everytime I mentioned wanting to go, my parents would say, ‘you are too busy to go to Disney right now,’ so when they gave me this magical news I was beyond surprised. I can’t wait to go to the most magical place on earth during the most magical time of year.”
Chester County High School is also showing their annual Talent Show virtually. Mary Hicks, theater director and facilitator of the show, is excited about the show.
“Getting to have this talent show was extremely important. Hopefully, the annual show brought some comfort to those who enjoy putting their talents in the limelight. Recording our competitors perform their talents rather than having a live show was the best way to show our students’ talents and keep everyone safe in the process.”
In some exciting news for students interested in agriculture, Future Farmers of America was approved to have chickens at the Garden Shed. Teresa Crouse, agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor, said this of getting the chickens.
“On Thursday 10, FFA students had an opportunity to present before the Henderson City Council to request permission to have chickens for our program. This was an exciting and successful process for our students to be involved in. We are very thankful for the opportunity to expand our students’ education.”
The end of the year is always full of exciting things for students and community members of Chester County. Hopefully everyone and their family has a wonderful Christmas Break. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
