Spring is always a busy time at Chester County High School. Several events and spring sports are all kicking off in March, and students are rushing to prepare for spring break.
Chester County High is preparing for the Junior ACT and Senior ASVAB date by holding several ACT Bootcamps leading up to the March 16 date. Report Cards will go home the next day. Spring Break follows in the week after the ACT.
The school is holding a fundraiser for Isaac Gregory, a Chester County Senior who is currently battling Ewing’s Sarcoma. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to Gregory’s family to help with medical expenses. Students can bring two dollars for jeans and hoodie day on Friday.
Prom is scheduled for May 8. The senior class officers sent out a “Save the Date.” This message included a disclaimer about coronavirus guidelines.
“Your Class of 2021 officers are planning a spectacular evening and would like you to save the date! However, please know that COVID Restrictions at that time may prohibit the gathering. We are optimistically planning and will share more information once we know more details.”
With the coming of spring, baseball is preparing for their upcoming season. They have been holding practices to ready themselves for their opener at home against Scotts Hill. In their first week, they play five games, one on each weekday. This team is up for a major test in their first week, and it should be a chance for them to start their season strongly.
For our basketball teams, our boys’ season came to a tragic end. They traveled to Dyersburg on Saturday, Feb. 27, and played an extremely close game. However, they ended up losing by one point for a final of 50-51. Our girls, however, got the win on that Saturday. In an intense game against Crockett County, Mia Hurst scored 20 to lead our girls to a 36-48 victory over the Cavaliers to advance to the second round of Regionals. On Monday, the girls traveled to Martin-Westview. This would mark the end of their impressive season in a 51-33 loss. A run to regionals is something this team should be proud of, as they showed the fire and the passion that only a team that is playing for something bigger shows. Both the boys and girls are in the capable hands of young players such as Tyricus Anderson, Quardarius Gains, Jariyah Williamson, and Ava Craddock. These players showed incredible growth this season and are primed to do great things as team leaders in the future.
