In the Chester County Middle School music room, students have been learning about basic music theory and foundations. This month, in honor of Black History Month, students will learn about the influence African American composers and musicians have had in the development of American music as we know it today.
PTS surprised the students with candy last week for Fun Friday. Students enjoyed large heart or twisty Valentine suckers. Thank you, PTS!
IN THE CLASSROOM – Texts and skills this week…
Fifth grade ELA: Complete “The Phantom Tollbooth”! We will begin our narrative writing unit; Math: Multiplying/Dividing Fractions; Science: Physical/Chemical changes of matter – rates of dissolve; Social Studies: World War II.
Fourth grade ELA: Starting a new novel, “Hatchet”; Math: Decomposing Fractions; Science: Earth’s Layers; Social Studies: James K. Polk and the California Gold Rush
Students attend activity classes once a week (PE, twice) and acquire new skills.
Academic Lab – Students had so many questions about China for Mrs. Hardin (who lived there for several years) that she will be continuing with the China Spring Festival.
Computer – Students will create an infographic slide of all the planets. They will insert pictures of the planets in order and label by inserting a text box under each planet picture.
Library – Coffee Stop! They have been reading books and taking tests to earn StarBooks Cafe bucks or StarBucks. Students will have an opportunity to tinker, create, play and explore as they spend their StarBucks on various activities in the library.
Music – African American musicians.
The winner of the second annual spelling bee will be announced next week!
