Our East Chester family enjoyed another wonderful week together. It is so great to be together again, learning and having fun. Here is what will be happening throughout the classrooms at East Chester this next week.
Kindergarten will be introducing the letters Cc, Gg, Ii, and Oo this week. They will be talking about the number two and practicing one to one correspondence of counting objects. They are discussing the five senses in science and working on writing their names and their friends’ names in writing.
This week, first graders will continue learning morals with a few of Aesop’s fables: “The Dog and the Manger,” “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing,” and “The Fox and Grapes.” Teachers will be assessing their students’ reading levels this week. In math first graders will continue to learn subtraction fundamentals with Rainbow Math.
This week, second grade students will be working on recognizing the difference between physical and political maps in social studies. Students will also learn how to use legends and cardinal directions to determine locations on physical and political maps. They will learn to recognize that the U.S. is part of the North American continent and identify the U.S. land/water borders including Canada, Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. In reading second grade students will enjoy a unit on fairy tales. They will learn the elements of fairy tales. This week, they will read Beauty and the Beast and explain how the beast changed in the story. In math second graders will learn that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.
Mrs. Sells is excited to welcome Freed-Hardeman University reading practicum student Kelsey Rice to her classroom. She reports that they have had a great start to this new school year getting to know one another and getting back into a good and healthy routine of learning and working together. Mrs. Sells also appreciates the generosity of their book sponsors who are buying her students a book a month to read and enjoy.
Third grade students enjoyed performing their Leader in Me program virtually. We enjoyed watching their program this week in our classrooms. Parents can view the program on our East Chester PTO Facebook page. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Becky Hartle for helping the third grade students with their LIM play.
This week in reading, third grade students will continue reading The Wind in the Willows. They have enjoyed reading about the adventures of Rat, Mole, Toad, Otter and Badger. This week, they will also read Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. In math, third grade students will continue working on Rainbow Math. They will also be learning about rounding and to fluently add and subtract to a thousand. Last week, third grade students planted sunflower seeds and carrot seeds as they began their science unit on life cycles. This week, students will continue to observe their plants and record their data. They will also learn about animal life cycles this week. In social studies third grade students will begin learning about the rivers of the world. Third grade students and teachers would like to thank all the parents that have donated supplies from their Amazon Wish List and to the classroom directly. They appreciate your generosity very much.
We are excited for another wonderful week at East Chester. We hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend.
