We had a wonderful week at East Chester. Read to find out more about what we have been learning and doing.
Congratulations to Ms. Diane Johnson for being selected by her peers as the East Chester Teacher of the Year. Ms. Diane teaches third grade reading and is loved and respected by her students and fellow teachers.
PE has looked a little different with the colder weather. Coach Chad and Coach Matt are keeping the classes separated by having one class in the gym and one in the cafeteria. They are incorporating inside games that they can play in the cafeteria. The students are loving it! The classes are going outside when possible. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes for PE. Label coats and make sure your child is wearing appropriate clothing for the weather.
We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Jan. 29. Our Kindergarten classes especially always enjoy celebrating this milestone, and the teachers have planned a fun learning day for the children.
First graders at East Chester are working hard every day! They are exploring life in early civilizations. Also, first graders are learning to add and subtract by using several different strategies. First graders at East are learning to become more fluent and independent readers who can answer questions about texts and cite on which page they found the answers. Wow! It is an amazing time to be a first grader at East Chester!
Second graders are wrapping up a unit on the War of 1812. As a culminating activity, students will be researching people that were important during the war. They are also learning about force and motion and the different types of energy. Students are still working to master two digit subtraction. On Friday, many second graders enjoyed a virtual program presented by our favorite, Mr. Bob. We always enjoy learning about animals with Mr. Bob.
Our third graders are learning about force in science. They have been working on balanced and unbalanced forces, friction and magnetism. In math they are learning about fractions. So far we have learned what a fraction is, unit fractions, numerators, denominators and fractions on a number line. This is such a fun skill for third graders!
In CKLA, the students are studying about Colonial America. They are learning all about the puritans coming from England to settle in the new world. We are identifying major countries and physical features on a map in social studies. There is so much to learn in third grade!
We are so excited to announce that our district has a new tool just for parents, with students in pre?K through third grade! Ready4K will send you tips and activities to help support your child’s learning. Next week, you will begin receiving text messages from Ready4K. This is a free service provided through a district partnership for all families of students pre?K through third grade. Ready4K will send you text messages with easy tips and activities to help you support your child.
