What a great week of learning we had here at East Chester Elementary School!
In kindergarten the students are rocking and rolling! The students studied the letters Nn, Hh, Ss and Ff. They learned to make words with those letters. The students continued to work on rhyme. In math they focused on the number four. They learned how to recognize, count, write and add with four.
First graders learned so much so far! They read Tom Thumb, Thumbelina and Issun Boshi: One Inch Boy. In math the students are using doubles facts to add. They continued to solve math problems by drawing pictures and writing equations, putting together and taking apart numbers.
The second graders are working hard! The second graders have partnered with Eagle’s Edge and Mrs. Amy Eads to participate in a reading challenge. Each second grader has been given the task of reading 10 books in the month of September. Keep reading, second graders! In reading the students read tall tales. They focused on the story of Paul Bunyun. The phonics skill for was looking at words that include double consonants in the middle or end of the words. They looked closely at the rules that tell how to spell these words. The students learned about three-digit numbers in math. They learned that three-digit numbers are composed of hundreds, tens and ones. The students learned how to represent these numbers using place value blocks in many different ways.
In third grade the students are showing all that they know! Students continued to read classic tales. The students read “The Wind in the Willows” and “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Our third graders continued to work on adding and subtracting three-digit numbers. They learned how to subtract two-digit numbers with and without regrouping in second grade and are extending what they know in third grade!
We have a date change for our PTO meeting. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.
Remember that Fall Pictures are on Sept. 21. Tell your East Chester student to bring their best smile!
East Chester’s second graders will be leading the Leader in Me Assembly on Sept. 24.
It is always a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
