We at East Chester are ready for the second semester of the 2021-22 school year! We have been working on so much new learning already!
In kindergarten those students are off to a great start to this new semester! The students are beginning their unit on consonant blends this week. They will be focusing on sn, sl, st, fr and gl. Kinders are also beginning their unit on teen numbers this week, beginning with the number 11. In science the students are continuing their unit on snow and ice. How appropriate! The students will be learning how to use transitional words in their writing, such as first, next, then and last. A reminder from kindergarten that Jan. 21 will be our 100th day of school celebration (for kindergarten).
First graders are already back in the swing of things! The students are learning about families past, present and today. They are continuing their unit on astronomy by learning about star gazing and constellations. In math first graders are working on number patterns such as odd and even and skip counting by 5s and 10s.
Second grade is rocking and rolling with new learning! The students are learning how to write an informative paragraph. They will read the text “Surviving the Cold” to learn ways that animals survive the cold temperatures. Second graders are beginning their unit on Ancient Asia this week. They will be reading folktales from India, China and Japan. In math the students are continuing to work on adding and subtracting two-digit numbers with regrouping.
In third grade the students are learning so many new things! The students are continuing to read about Colonial America. In math the students are learning how to read and create picture graphs and bar graphs. They are also learning how to use those graphs to solve problems.
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
