We are having another great week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School! We had a successful blood drive on Monday! Thank you to everyone that donated!
In kindergarten the students are working hard! The students will continue with their study of blends. This week, they are working on th, ch, sh, and wh. In math the students are learning about the number 13. This week, the students are beginning their unit on hibernation. Each student has been researching an animal that hibernates and will present their findings to the class.
First graders are learning so many new things! This week, the students are reading about animal habitats. In math they are working on 10 more, 10 less and 1 more, 1 less.
In second grade students are doing great things! The students wrapped up their unit about ancient Asia last week with a celebration of the Chinese new year. The students learned about paper making, silk making and how our lives today are influenced by those contributions from that time. In math the students are using what they learned about adding two-digit numbers to begin adding three-digit numbers.
Third graders are growing and learning more and more each day! Students are continuing their unit on Colonial America. This week, they are learning about the Puritans, Quakers and the middle colonies. In math the students are continuing their work with fractions. This week, we are focusing on using models and number lines to find equivalent fractions.
On Feb. 1, we will begin a new family engagement program in which all East Chester students will be reading the same book together with their families. We will all be reading “The World According to Humphrey” by Betty Birney. This book describes the daily events in the classroom through the eyes of the class pet, Humphrey. Reading will be done with the family at home every night. We will be sending more information home very soon!
Just a reminder that we will not be accepting any deliveries for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14. Also, there will be no school on Feb. 18 or Feb. 21. The students will return on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
